Boreas Intertie

Developing Clean Power Distribution

The Boreas Intertie Project is designed to unlock new opportunities for renewable energy development and strengthen power system performance across Montana and the northern Rocky Mountain region.

By establishing a vital link between the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) and the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the Boreas line will expand transmission capacity across the northern tier states, enhance grid reliability, and create pathways for future energy investment in Montana and beyond.

To minimize environmental and community impacts, the project will strategically follow existing transmission corridors through Montana and Wyoming, ensuring responsible development that supports local communities and a broad clean energy transition.
